To age galvanized metal start by sanding it with 80 grit sandpaper until it no longer looks shiny and slick.

I looked for zep acid toilet bowl cleaner which is my corrosion agent of choice but 4 local stores i went.
Once the entire piece is dry give it a few minutes to cool off then wash it down with water to clean off all the dried on stuff and reveal all that beautiful aging.

In general you probably won t want to age a piece using this method for too long especially if you live in a humid climate.
Place bucket in the solution it should cover 1 2 inches of the bottom and let sit for 15 20 minutes image 2.
Add about 1 2 cup of regular table salt to the mix.
Place an old towel in a large plastic bin then simply pour vinegar on the towel until its soaked.
Put a new galvanized olive basket in a tub.
Then put the metal on a plastic sheet in an open or well ventilated area and put on safety glasses gloves and a long sleeved shirt to protect yourself from the chemicals.
Remember that the copper will age naturally with time as well so you don t have to do too much to get the effect you want on an object you ll have for a long time.
